Robert, I’m glad to hear people can still plant Buddleia in the UK! Is it not a horrible weed for you? I feel very fortunate that it isn’t for us.

I’m going to get a jar of honey and go out there to compare them…

Good on you sir!
One of the first plants I ever bought and like to use it to back of very deep herbaceous border so that come now abouts it starts to surprize me!
Agree with Jocelyn the scent is honey.
Disagree with Suzanne and agree with you they are so like mulleins!

@Jocelyn: Wow, 20 years old! I bet that’s a doozie. I’m glad to hear it’s hardy for you in Zone 5 for that length of time too. I know plenty of folks who’ve had trouble there.

@Suzanne: Interesting, eh? And I see you just posted a photo of a mullein too! I can see some similarities if I really look…

I would never have guessed that it is related to mullein. It doesn’t look anything like it.

Yes, yes, and YES! I have a 20 year old specimen in my garden, too, and it’s an absolute favorite. Your observations and growing tips are spot on for the zone 5 Denver region (where Buddleia is not invasive). I peg the flower fragrance as honey…
